According to the U.S. Census Bureau, as many as 29% of citizens were not registered to vote in 2008 – that’s 60 million people! More than one-third of eligible voting citizens did not vote in the last presidential election.
This bugs me to no end. How can we so flippantly disregard one our greatest gifts as a U.S. citizen? We cannot forget the freedoms that we have in America. We can’t just dust under the door the history that created this freedom. We are well aware of the atrocities around the world. Are we so naive to think these freedoms will never be taken from us? Are is it that we have become so lazy we are willing to let others do the thinking for us? If the process seems too ardent and complicated we can’t seem to allocate enough brain cells away from Walking Dead to sort through the issues that should greatly concern us.
Tomorrow, like every other election is a huge day for our country. We are at a crossroads. We are dangerously slipping into extremely difficult times that will call for fiercely strong leadership. Do your homework tonight. Turn off the ridiculously stupid commercials that insult your intelligence and search public records for truths instead of relying on hateful heresy. Most importantly pray for God to lead you in this process. Seek His will for your life in all things. Ask Him to clear away the muddle and muck and clearly reveal to you what needs to be done.
But don’t look away. Don’t give away this incredible right you have. Don’t fall for the lie that your one vote won’t make a difference. When we start giving way to apathy we’re in a world of hurt.
