Why I’m your bumbly ole favorite video game character

I’m not so much a systems and procedures type person. I’ve never successfully been able to have a “Laundry Day.” I don’t really have a set workout routine. I try to plan menus but I end up going to the grocery store 3 times a week without my list. I love calendars, notebooks, and especially post its but I have a lot of those because I don’t really have a set place of keeping them so I end up buying more. I’m a stacker and a piler. I move paper mounds from The Messy Desk, to the counter, to the kitchen table, to back to The Messy Desk. I pay the bills when I remember. I wash clothes when we need them. I unload the dishwasher when I need a coffee cup. It’s not pretty but we’re all still pretty much alive and happy. We move from Point A to Point B in whatever fashion we can. I’m kind of like that video game character that just bumps into obstacles, turns around, and tries another route.

That’s why I can understand the raised eyebrows when I tell people who have known me for awhile what I’m working on now. I get the spewed coffee when I tell them I have to bolt to a “Policies and Procedures Meeting.” I can relate when folks giggle at me when I say we’re finalizing a Strategic Plan when I can’t even say the word “strategic.” But despite my  Pacman/Wreck It Ralph tendencies The Sparrow’s Nest is beginning to take flight.

I’m respecting the process that others are guiding me through. I struggle focusing on all the tiny little details that need to be covered because I’m just looking at that bunch of cheeries dangling above my head. We will have everything we need to have in place before we are operational.

The biggest question I get asked is how will you fund it? Where is the money coming from? I can answer with the correct procedural systematic answers like foundational grants, private donations, fundraisers, a source of sustainable revenue, church support, and major gifts. And all that is coming together. However, when comes right down to it, I don’t know and I’m not real sure I care.

All I see is Point A to Point B.

The details in between are always taken care of.

Just between you and me, I’m sure that’s a sigh of relief on your part. 🙂

Psalm 37:5-6
5 Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this: 6 He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.
